How To Use Mala Beads Color Meanings for Manifesting

Yes, the different colors of mala beads have specific meanings! So whatever you’re working on manifesting, there is a mala bead color that will support your efforts perfectly. I’m sharing a mala beads color meaning list below.

Which color are you drawn to? Does it resonate with what’s going on in your life?

What Are Mala Beads?

Mala beads are prayer beads traditionally used by Eastern religions such as Buddhists and Hindus. Similar to rosary beads, malas are used while reciting mantras, to keep track of your repetitions.

Or simply to use as a focal point during meditation. Counting the malas also helps to keep you present during mindfulness exercises.

Spiritual people in the Western world have fully embraced mala beads! They’re so beautiful, often made from crystals that carry healing properties. Mala beads come in a wide variety of colors, each one with specific energetic gifts to support your self-care practice.

The mala beads color meaning list below will help you choose the correct malas, based on your intentions.

Note: If you grew up Catholic, you know it’s taboo to wear your rosary beads like jewelry. This is not so for mala beads! As long as you actually use them for your self-care practice some of the time, it’s not disrespectful to wear them.

What Do Mala Beads Represent?

At the most basic level, mala beads are a focusing tool. They can help you stay mindful of the mantra you’re repeating. Or you can use them to stay focused on your breath as you move your fingers along the beads.

How Many Beads On A Mala?

There are 108 beads on the traditional mala. 108 is considered a highly spiritual and sacred number.

I also love that it reduces to angel number 9 (1 + 0 + 8 = 9), which is all about attaining your goals and closing old chapters. I can totally relate this theme to my focus during meditation! How about you?

108 malas may sound like a lot but it really is the perfect number to give you plenty of time to get into the zone for meditation.

How To Use Mala Beads For Anxiety

Based on our mala beads color meaning list, yellow is my top choice when using mala beads for anxiety, but red, brown, or black would also make great choices. You should feel totally free to use your intuition on this (or just use whatever you’ve got, if you don’t have access to your intuition in the moment).

Here are 3 ways to use your mala beads for anxiety:

1. Hold your mala beads in your dominant hand and for each bead, take a full inhale through the nose and exhale out the mouth.

2. If that feels like you’re moving too slowly, inhale for the time it takes you to move your fingers across 4 beads. Then exhale for 4 as well. I don’t know about you but sometimes when I’m feeling anxious, my body needs to move – so do what feels the most soothing to you in the moment.

3. Try repeating an affirmation for anxiety relief for every bead that you touch, as you move through all 108. As you’re affirming, focus on how the beads feel between your fingers.

How To Use Mala Beads In Meditation

Traditionally, using mala beads for meditation could not be more simple.

Just drape your malas in your dominant hand (traditionally it’s your right hand, but it works no matter what, so just do what’s most comfortable for you). Move through each bead and, you have a few choices:

Then move on to the next bead and repeat.

One of the most popular mantras is om mani padme hum. You can learn all about this powerful mantra here: 10 Amazing “Om Mani Padme Hum” Benefits To Get You Chanting

Don’t worry if your mind wanders, just gently redirect your thoughts back to the beads, and continue on your way.

The beauty of mala beads during meditation is, you know exactly when to stop. If you get distracted by the time, like I do, malas are a great way to set yourself up for success. 108 and done!

How To Use Mala Beads For Yoga

There are a couple different ways you can incorporate mala beads into your yoga practice. Pick your colored malas based on your intentions for practice.

Then, wear your malas as jewelry during your flow. I find it easier to wrap the malas around the wrist during yoga, as opposed to a necklace flopping around everywhere. The beads will do their healing magic on you as you practice.

In addition, you can use your malas during savasana (final resting pose at the end of practice) to stay present, focused, and awake as you wind down.
