How To Cleanse Selenite The Right Way

Where are my selenite lovers?! Selenite wands are powerful tools for raising your vibration and ushering in healing. But you’ve probably heard they have some specific needs when it comes to cleansing. In this post, I’m sharing how to cleanse selenite wands safely, without damaging them.

Selenite Crystal Meaning + Healing Properties

Selenite is a type of gypsum that’s been crystalized.

While it feels solid enough in your hand, it’s actually considered quite soft. In the mineral world, we use the Mohs scale to classify hardness. On a scale of 1 to 10 from softest to hardest, selenite is a 2, which is why it needs to be handled with care.

Spiritually, selenite is know for it’s calming, high vibrational energy. Its most noteworthy quality is that is has the ability to cleanse your other crystals. So if you pass your selenite wand over your other stones, it will clear their energy. How cool is that?

Of course, all the more reason you need to cleanse your selenite wand from time to time – because it’s pulling negative energy away from the other stones. Just as you as a healer need healing, your selenite wand needs an occasional cleansing.

Selenite healing properties include:

• Clearing negative energy
• Breaking down energetic blocks
• Raising vibrational frequency
• Balancing the crown chakra
• Promotes feelings of joy and wellbeing
• Supports better sleep
• Enhances spiritual awareness

Selenite Uses

Since selenite has such a high vibration, it supports emotional healing and spiritual growth beautifully. Here are my favorite ways to use a selenite wand:

• Cleanse your other crystals. I bought a huge piece of selenite so I can pile all my other crystals right onto. I love doing this, then setting it under the light of a full moon to cleanse and charge.
• Raise your vibrational frequency. Selenite is super high vibe, so just holding it in your hand while you meditate will raise your vibration.
• Call in angel energy. If you love working with angels then you need to get yourself some selenite! The high vibration will help you more easily connect to them.
• Help with sleep. Try placing selenite under your pillow, or even on the floor under your bed for a better night’s rest, and sweeter dreams.
• Soothe stress. Anxiety, worry, and stress all vibrate at a low frequency on the emotional scale. Placing your wand on your body, or waving it over your heart will help you to release negativity that’s trapped in your body so you can relax.
• Cleansing tarot or oracle cards. Just fan out your card deck on a table and wave your selenite wand over the cards until you feel guided to stop. Or, place your selenite on top of the deck and leave it overnight.
• Ease pain in the body. Place the tip of your selenite wand over a target area on your body, and envision it drawing out discomfort, like water through a straw.

How Often Should I Cleanse My Selenite Wand?

The answer to this question depends how often you use your selenite wand. It’s not necessary to cleanse it after each and every use, because it is so high vibrational. But I like to clean mine about once per month, if I’m using it regularly.

Your wand will tell you when she wants to be cleaned! So you should feel free to use your own intuition on this. You and your crystals are connected, so there’s no need to second guess yourself.

Can My Selenite Wand Touch Water?

No! As I mentioned earlier, selenite is just a 2 out of 10 on the Mohs scale which means it’s quite soft. So if you submerge it in water more than a few minutes, it’ll get gummy and gross. When this happens, its healing properties are lost.

For this reason, I don’t recommend you place selenite outside, either. I speak from experience, because I placed a few selenite sticks in my landscaping a few years back. The snails loved them, as you can see, but moisture from the earth, along with the rain, eventually broke them down, and ruined them (they basically disintegrated).

7 Safe Ways To Cleanse Selenite

OK so if you can’t use water like you do with your quartz crystals, how are you supposed to cleanse your selenite wand? There are several ways to do it, with or without tools.

Here are the top 7 ways to cleanse selenite wands. These methods work for raw and polished selenite:

Smudging to Cleanse Your Selenite Wand

Just light some dried sage (or palo santo) and waft the smoke over your selenite wand for a few moments. This works very well, as cleansing negative energy is sage’s main function.

Sunshine

You can place your selenite wand in a sunny windowsill or even outside if there’s no chance they’ll get wet. Father sun’s energy will cleanse it safely. I like to leave mine in the sun for at least 1 hour but again, trust your own intuition.

Reiki Energy Cleansing

If you’re a reiki practitioner, you can hold your hands over your selenite wand and give it a couple minutes of reiki healing energy.

Or, if you receive reiki from a pro as part of your self-care practice, bring your selenite with you and ask them to clear it for you. I’m a reiki master myself, and I was always happy to do this for my clients; it’s no extra trouble for your crystals to piggyback on your healing sesh!

Moonlight

The moonlight can cleanse your selenite wand, too. All you need to do is place it in a window, preferably under a full moon when it’s casting the most light. For this method, I find it easiest to just leave it overnight.

Just a reminder, don’t leave it outside under the moonlight. The moisture in the air will hurt your selenite wand.

Salt for Selenite Crystal Cleansing

Depending on the size of your selenite wand, you can fill a bowl or mason jar with salt, and place your wand inside.

Salt draws impurities out of objects. So make sure you don’t repurpose the salt for cooking! Toss it in the trash, or reserve it strictly for cleansing your selenite.

Sound Bath

If you have a singing bowl, that will raise the vibration and cleanse your selenite’s energy, just as it does yours! Some of the pure crystal singing bowls are major financial investments.
