Today I’m going to explain the 5 Abraham Hicks steps to align your thoughts with your desires, so you can manifest. If you can get a handle on this 5 step process, you’ll literally crack open a world of limitless possibility for yourself. I’m so excited you’re here!
How Do You Manifest According To Abraham Hicks
Abraham Hicks teaches us that the key to manifesting everything is to attune your vibration to whatever it is you want.
This is because law of attraction is always delivering you experiences that match your vibration. So, if you can learn to adjust your vibe, you begin to control what unfolds in your life.
Abraham gives us 5 steps to follow to help us do this. Those 5 steps are what we’re talking about today!
What Is Alignment with Law of Attraction?
When we talk about alignment, it’s referring to how close a match your emotions are to your desires.
Do you have Netflix? I was noticing the other night that it’ll offer me suggestions based on what I’ve already watched. And, it’ll show me a percentage of how closely it matches my profile.
So when I watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, it decided The Good Place was a 97% match for me, because it has a similar vibe.
Then it dawned on me, this is a perfect example of law of attraction!
With this example in mind, let’s do a quick exercise.
First, I want you to think about the feelings you experience most, throughout the day. Think of a few words to describe them: are you mostly happy, grateful, frustrated, overwhelmed, stressed out? A mix?
Next, think about something you’ve wished for, and imagine what it would feel like if it came true. What words would you use to describe that experience? Probably feelings like excited, grateful, joyful, and energized.
Finally, I want you to compare those two sets of feelings. Are they fairly similar? If so, that means you’re a vibrational match to your desires. In other words, you’re in alignment – yay!
Or, if your real-life emotions are the compete opposite of the ones in your ‘wish come true’ scenario, that’s perfectly okay. It just means you’re in the right place to learn what to do about it.
How Do I Get In Alignment With Source?
The 5 steps below are meant to get you into alignment with source, so you can become a vibrational match to your desires (and therefore allow them into your life).
But in a nutshell, you get into alignment by moving up the emotional guidance scale, and staying as close to the top as possible, for as long as you can.
The 5 Abraham Hicks Steps for Alignment
Here are the 5 steps to get into alignment! Originally, there were only 3 steps to this process. So if you have the book Ask And It Is Given , you won’t see steps 4 and 5 there, but they are covered below.
Step 1: You Ask
The first step in the creation process comes naturally, as you explore the contrast of your world. Whenever you identify something you like or dislike, you’re defining your own personal preferences.
Step 1 happens when you specifically ask the universe, or pray for, something you want. Like a new relationship or more money, for example.
But it can also be more subtle, like when you’re sitting in traffic, wishing there was less congestion on the roads, so you can get to your destination faster. Your discomfort, even if it’s mild, automatically sends a request to the universe for more ease.
I find this concept so comforting, because it means every negative experience we have serves as an opportunity for improvement. Each time you experience something unpleasant, it triggers you to ask for something better, and the universe responds, every time. This is the power that creates worlds!
In a nutshell, every time you focus on something that hatches a desire within you for anything, you’re doing step 1.
This is what Abraham refers to as ‘launching a rocket of desire’, and it’s what makes the universe expand. This is what you were born to do: experience variety, pick out what you enjoy most, and create more of it.
The trick to alignment is not to get stuck in step 1! The next step is the Universe’s job, but then the ball is back in your court. Let’s keep going.
Step 2: The Universe Answers
The 2nd of the 5 Abraham Hicks steps doesn’t require any action on your part at all. Easy!
Whenever you ask for improvement or expansion, the Universe/God/Source answers – on a vibrational level.
You may have heard Abraham talk about the concept of ‘the vortex’. The vortex is an energetic holding place for answers to your every prayer, solutions to your every problem.
So every time you ask for something new, the Universe immediately responds by finding the easiest pathway to it, based on wherever you are in that moment. Every sign, helpful person, experience, and new interest, required to get you from where you are to where you want to go is mapped out for you, and held in the vortex.
In order for you to experience your upgrades in your physical world, you need to allow them to flow out of the vortex and into your life. This is the work of step 3, and what Abraham refers to as ‘the art of allowing‘.
Step 3: You Allow It In
As we’ve said, law of attraction is always sending you experiences that match your dominant vibration. And your vibration is determined by the emotions you feel the strongest. The higher up on the emotional guidance scale you are, the closer you are to being a vibrational match to allowing the solutions from step 2 to show up in your life.
Your emotions are your indicators of how well you’re doing – so you can think of step 3 as setting your intentions to feel as good as you can, as often as possible.
When you’re a vibrational match to your desire, it literally must show up in your life; that’s the law of attraction.
Every Subject Is Really 2 Subjects
The most important part of step 3 is to be aware of how you’re feeling so you can lean toward the direction of alignment.
Often we get stuck in the negative emotions that caused us to ask in step 1. But it’s important to know that you can’t hold onto negative emotions on a subject and experience improvement – it defies the laws of the universe.
Instead, you need to find a way to raise your vibration (improve your mood), so that you become a match to the solutions awaiting you in your vortex.
For example, if you had a ‘step 1 moment’ that caused you to ask for more money. So step 2 happens immediately, and the universe queues up a pathway toward your abundance – no questions asked.
Now your step 3 work is to find a way to improve your relationship with money, so you can think about it and feel hopeful, instead of frustrated.
As your attitude improves, you’ll begin to see little signs of prosperity showing up for you everywhere.
An example of aligning your thoughts with abundance
Think of step 3 like tuning to your favorite radio station. If you want to hear the song that’s playing on 93.1, you can’t set your dial to 94.5.
In the same way, you can’t attract abundance if you’re constantly complaining about not having enough; it’s a vibrational mismatch.
So comments like this are going to keep you in a state of lack, since they’re a vibrational match to your problem:
- I never have enough money
- Everything is so expensive
- I’ll never be able to pay all these bills
- Me and my ‘poor people’ problems
- I’m going to have to work until I’m 80
- There’s not enough resources in the world
On the other hand, these comments are a closer match to abundance:
- My basic needs are always met and I’m so grateful for that
- I really admire people who are good with money
- It makes me happy to see other people thriving
- I’m excited about improving my relationship with money
- I know more prosperity is on its way to me. I’m going to relax and let it in.
- I’m in no rush with this, I’m just going to follow my good-feeling thoughts and see where it leads me.
- It’s a fun game to ask the universe to help me and then see what happens
If you can find a way to feel good about money before more money shows up in your experience, then it absolutely must come to you.

Step 4: Maintain Your Alignment
The 4th of the Abraham Hicks steps was tacked on a bit later, so you won’t see it in the book. But in a nutshell, step 4 occurs when you are able to maintain your alignment for longer periods of time.
So if you’ve soothed yourself up the emotional scale in step 3, you’re going to start manifesting your desires. Hooray!
The longer you can stay in alignment, the easier it becomes to manifest your desires.
Some of the most challenging work you can do is to hold onto your high vibration, regardless of what’s going on around you. It takes practice to maintain your alignment, and that’s what step 4 is all about.
The more practiced you become at noticing your negative emotions, and then choosing thoughts that feel better, the more you will thrive in all areas of life.
So let’s say you’re having a great day and then you have an interaction with someone who’s just in a rotten mood. If you’re not practiced in your alignment, it’s going to be super easy for them to drag you right down with them. Since your emotions determine what you manifest, this is literally the most important work you can do!
When you can recognize when your thoughts and feelings are headed down a path that doesn’t serve you, it’s much easier to turn things around quickly.
Step 5: Appreciate The Value of Step 1
The last of the Abraham Hicks steps is a loving reminder that there’s nothing wrong with winding up back in step 1. In fact, you’re supposed to experience diversity and contrast every once in a while.
Why? Because that’s how new desires are born. Without step 1 asking, there can be no growth or expansion.
It’s super important not to beat yourself up when you’ve been knocked out of alignment and find yourself in the lower half of the emotional scale. So important, in fact, that Abraham tacked on this whole extra step just to let you know!
Negative emotions are sacred, useful, and necessary. And as you get better at this 5 step process, you’ll move through them more quickly and spend the majority of your time in steps 3 and 4.
So one more time: you haven’t done anything wrong if you’re feeling bad. The universe will sometimes lead you straight into a challenging experience, knowing that it’ll plant the seed for your own expansion. You can think of step 4 as a spiritual growth spurt.
When you can find yourself back in step 1 and say ‘I know how to move through this and it’s going to be okay’, then you’ve truly mastered the art of allowing.
