These Louise Hay quotes will uplift and empower you!
Who Is Louise Hay
Louise Hay is a beloved metaphysical teacher and author who overcame many challenges in her life, including healing herself from cancer. She spent her life sharing her message that you can heal all areas of your life by changing your beliefs. She’s famous for her use of positive affirmations for self healing. She’s also the woman behind Hay House publications, which provides tons of self-help resources, and the annual Hay House Summit.
She passed away on August 30, 2017 of natural causes, at the age of 90.
Louise’s Story of Cancer and Self Healing
Louise Lynn Hay was born on October 8, 1926 (she was a Libra), and her childhood story is not for the weak of heart. She endured every type of abuse you can imagine while living in poverty. And while she did manage to escape her dangerous home life, her self esteem remained very low, so she continued to experience abusive relationships.
Louise eventually developed cervical cancer and was told she needed surgery. As a result of this jarring news, she threw herself into every self healing resource she could get her hands on. She told her doctors she needed 3 months to save up for the surgery, but she had another plan in mind!
At the time, Louise had been working on her now-famous book, Heal Your Body, which maps physical dis-eases to their emotional root cause. She intuitively knew that her cancer was a direct result of the unprocessed emotions caused by trauma. So she began to apply what she had learned: she worked with a nutritionist and went on a temporary veggie-based diet. In addition, she meditated daily, worked with a foot reflexology expert, and most of all, began to practice self love.
As a result, you guessed it! Just 6 months after being diagnosed, the cancer was completely gone. Have you ever heard a more inspirational story?
Louise went on to make it her life’s mission to share what she’d learned with the world. Many of the quotes below are taken from her book You Can Heal Your Life. If these Louise Hay quotes resonate with you, I highly recommend you buy her book. It’s incredibly soothing and I have used it myself to self heal from all sorts of conditions. I return to it again and again, whenever I’m feeling low.
I hope you enjoy these Louise Hay inspirational quotes as much as I do.
Inspirational Quotes from Louise Hay
As you can imagine, Louise is big on taking responsibility for one’s own experiences. She doesn’t use the term, but her teachings are totally in line with law of attraction. Louise’s makes it clear that you can’t play the victim and also expect to experience positive change.
Instead, she encourages us to claim our power by acknowledging that we need to change our mental patterns in order to create upgrades in our lives. In other words, what we get out of life matches what we believe we deserve.
“What we think about ourselves becomes truth for us. I believe that everyone, myself included, is responsible for everything in our lives, the best and the worst.”
“Every thought you think is creating your future.”
“How you start your day is how you live your day. How you live your day is how you live your life.”
“Remember, you’ve been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.”
“Which of these statements sounds like you?
People are out to get me.
Everyone is always helpful.
Each one of these beliefs will create quite different experiences. What we believe about ourselves and about life becomes true for us.”
“Your power is always in the present moment.”
“It is our natural birthright to go from success to success all our life. If we are not doing that, either we are not in tune with our innate capabilities, or we do not believe it can be true for us, or we do not recognize our successes.”
“You are the only person who thinks in your mind! You are the power and authority in your world.”
“Taking a stand and setting healthy boundaries is often the most loving thing you can do—not only for yourself, but for the other person as well.”
If you read about her history above, you already know there’s no one more qualified to speak to self healing than Louise Hay! These Louise Hay quotes on healing will give you an entirely new perspective on how to approach your wellness journey.
“You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds.”
“Every time you meditate, every time you do visualization for healing, every time you say something for healing the whole planet, you are connecting with like-minded people all over the planet who are doing the same thing.”
“Awareness is the first step in healing or changing. If you think of the hardest thing for you to do and how much you resist it, then you’re looking at your greatest lesson at the moment.”
“Cluttered closets mean a cluttered mind. As you clean the closet, say to yourself, ‘I am cleaning out the closets of my mind,’ The Universe loves symbolic gestures.”
“There is so much love in your heart that you could heal the entire planet. But just for now let us use this love to heal you. Feel a warmth beginning to glow in your heart center, a softness, a gentleness. Let this feeling begin to change the way you think and talk about yourself.”
“Love is the greatest healing power I know. Love can heal even the deepest and most painful memories because love brings the light of understanding to the darkest corners of our hearts and minds.”
“If we are willing to do the mental work, almost anything can be healed.”
It’s clear that Louise couldn’t have experienced such a profound level of self healing without a great deal of forgiveness work. Forgiving others, as well as ourselves is an absolute necessity in order to heal deeply and completely in every area of our lives.
Whom do you need to forgive? Sometimes it feels like we’re letting someone get away with wrongdoing if we forgive them. But the truth is, forgiveness is an act of self-care. Your feelings may not change overnight, but the simple act of setting your intention to let go of resentment and anger can work miracles. These Louise Hay quotes on forgiveness will help.
“I forgive you for not being the way I wanted you to be. I forgive you and I set you free.”
“How foolish for us to PUNISH OURSELVES in the present moment because someone hurt us in the long-ago past. I often say to people who have deep resentment patterns: please begin to dissolve the resentment now, when it is relatively easy. Don’t wait until you are under the threat of a surgeon’s knife or on your death bed when you may have to deal with panic, too.”
“We may not know how to forgive, and we many not want to forgive; but the very fact we say we are willing to forgive begins the healing practice.”
“Forgiveness is for yourself because it frees you. It lets you out of that prison you put yourself in.”
“If you want to understand your parents more, get them to talk about their own childhood; and if you listen with compassion, you will learn where their fears and rigid patterns come from. Those people who “did all that stuff to you” were just as frightened and scared as you are.”
“Whenever we are ill, we need to search our hearts to see who it is we need to forgive. The Course in Miracles says that “all disease comes from a state of unforgiveness,” and that “whenever we are ill, we need to look around to see who it is that we need to forgive.”
Self Love Quotes
Self love is the corner stone of Louise Hay’s philosophy. She mentions it again and again throughout her books, positive affirmations, and interviews. If you need a boost in the self love department, just come back to these quotes and read through them for a comforting pick-me-up. You are loveable!
“Love is the great miracle cure. Loving ourselves works miracles in our lives.”
“We must be willing to begin to learn to love ourselves.”
“Self-approval and self-acceptance in the now are the keys to positive changes.”
“If your mother did not know how to love herself, or your father did not know how to love himself, then it would be impossible for them to teach you to love yourself.”
“Love comes when we least expect it, when we are not looking for it. Hunting for love never brings the right partner. It only creates longing and unhappiness. Love is never outside ourselves; love is within us.”
“People who love themselves and their bodies neither abuse themselves nor others.”
“When we really love ourselves, everything in our life works.”
“Love who and what you are and what you do. Laugh at yourself and at life, and nothing can touch you. It’s all temporary anyway. Next lifetime you will do it differently anyway, so why not do it differently right now?”
“No matter what the problem, the main issue to work on is loving the self. This is the magic wand that dissolves problems.”
“When we expand our thinking and beliefs our love flows freely. When we contract we shut ourselves off. Can you remember the last time when you were in love? Your heart went ahhh!! Such a wonderful feeling. It is the same with loving yourself except that you will never leave once you have your love for yourself. It’s with you for the rest of your life, so you want to make it the best relationship that you can have.”
