Your body is a natural healing machine and there are many ways to boost your body’s natural healing power. Of course plant-based eating, filtered water, supplements, and a healthy balance of exercise and sleep are critical factors – but you already knew that. What you may not know is, there are alternative healing practices, outside the realm of diet and exercise, that can promote well being in all areas of your life. In this post I offer some lesser known holistic healing methods to support your physical and emotional health. Pick and choose as you see fit!
Reduce EMF Exposure
EMF stands for Electromagnetic Field. Smart phones, laptops, WiFi, power lines, and microwaves give off harmful, ‘low frequency’ radiation. Studies suggest that exposure is linked to minor symptoms such as brain fog, all the way to inflammation in the body, neurological disorders, erectile dysfunction, and even cancer. Scary stuff, I know! But before you pack your bags and head for the nearest bunker, there are ways to minimize unwanted exposure:
Don’t sleep with your phone under your pillow or near your head. This might be a difficult habit to break, especially if you use your phone as an alarm clock. If that’s the case, at least put your phone in Airplane Mode at night (the alarm function will still work).
Use speaker, BlueTooth, and voice activation as often as possible to create some distance between your phone and your body.

Aromatherapy is all about olfaction (your sense of smell). Essential oils are made up of tiny molecules that receptors in your nose deliver to a part of your brain called the limbic system. The limbic system is responsible for emotional response and is strongly tied to your memories. You can use essential oil blends to evoke feelings of well being, joy, and peace! Your emotional state has a huge impact on your immune system. While positive emotions support wellness, negative emotions promote dis-ease. It’s important to remember that aromatherapy only works when you’re using therapeutic grade organic essential oils. Meditation has made a huge comeback lately, but it’s important to remember that there’s nothing ‘new age’ about it. In fact, this is an ancient practice that wise ones throughout the ages have recommended for self-healing. Why? Because we are what we think. Most of the time our thoughts are based in worry and fear, especially when we’re working through a health challenge. Meditation teaches us that we can pick and choose which thoughts we focus on. Here are some popular forms of meditation. Pick one that works for you and remember, there’s no such thing as a meditation fail! Even if you practice for 30 seconds a day, you’ll reap major benefits:
Light a candle and focus on the flame for a few minutes
Guided meditations – there are tons of freebies on YouTube.
Visualization – close your eyes and envision yourself completely well. How would your life be different? What emotions does that inspire? This is a good one to do when you’re in bed; your subconscious will continue to send healing messages to your body while you sleep.
Take a walk in nature – focus on the sounds, sights, and smells of the natural world
White noise – use a house fan or white noise machine as the focus of your attention
Your lymphatic system is responsible for ridding the body of toxins and it doesn’t come with a pump (your circulatory system, for example, has the heart to keep things moving). Dry brushing is one way to stimulate the lymph in order to rid your body of unwanted toxins. It lightens the load on your liver and stimulates healthy blood flow. Did you ever notice a whitish film on your tongue? That’s a sign that you have a detox opportunity! Tongue scraping is an incredibly easy and effective way to promote a healthy body, yet it’s often overlooked.
As you ingest food throughout the day, toxins begin to build up in your mouth. Scraping gently removes bacteria, reduces bad breath, and even helps improve your sense of taste. This gets my vote as the moves valuable and powerful practice you can adopt. I promise this isn’t an attempt to convince you to give up your desires. Gratitude is the path that leads to abundance is all areas of your life. The universe operates on the Law of Attraction, which means that what you focus on grows. When you’re focused on illness, or even trying to avoid illness, you send out a signal to the universe. In return, it delivers you experiences to match your thoughts. In this way, negative beliefs create a self fulfilling prophecy. As you begin to choose more positive thoughts, you begin to carve out new pathways in your brain. Eventually, it will become your habit to notice the gifts in your life, which will attract more for which to be grateful.
